The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo has appointed a 12-member volunteer Board of Directors, chaired by Charity Wiley, to oversee the planning, coordination, and delivery of the 2028 Alberta Summer Games in Fort McMurray. The provincial government has pledged a $1,150,000 grant through Alberta Sports to cover major staffing, transportation, promotions, and event delivery costs for the games, which are anticipated to draw approximately 2,800 participants. The event marks the fourth time Fort McMurray has hosted the provincial games and the first time since the 2018 Alberta Winter Games.
