The Prince Edward Island government, guided by recommendations from the Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation, has released a draft shoreline erosion management plan for public feedback. Presented by senior climate change adaptation policy adviser Bryan Martin, the plan addresses an average historical coastal erosion rate of 28 centimetres (nearly one foot) per year between 1968 and 2010. While focusing initially on southeastern P.E.I., Lennox Island, and the Pituamkek National Park Reserve, the policy aims to minimize shoreline armouring to allow natural sediment movement, while reserving hardening for critical infrastructure and built-up areas like Charlottetown. Public engagement sessions are scheduled for October 19, 20, and 21, 2026, in Charlottetown, Montague, and Wood Islands.
