Michael Rowan, the acting senior administrative officer for the hamlet of just over 2,000 people, warned of a potential state of emergency with only one week remaining until the next annual sealift delivery scheduled for September 17, 2026. Meanwhile, Transportation and Infrastructure Nunavut spokesperson Greg Belanger stated that sufficient diesel remains to sustain the community until the resupply, noting that a territorial technician was dispatched to transfer fuel between tanks to unlock approximately 150,000 additional litres. Territorial officials attributed the depletion to higher-than-anticipated demand driven by local construction, whereas hamlet officials pointed to broader community growth outpacing territorial infrastructure capacity.
