Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand announced that one of the 30 Canadian citizens and permanent residents previously missing following catastrophic flooding in Nepal has been found safe after re-establishing communication. The flash floods, triggered by a glacier collapse in the Himalayan border region between Nepal and China, have resulted in over 1,100 deaths and left more than 3,900 people missing. In response to the crisis, the federal government is providing $5 million in humanitarian aid and dispatching more than 18,000 emergency items from Canadian Red Cross stockpiles to the affected region.
