Ontario Restoring Vehicle Lanes on Toronto’s Busiest Streets

Following a unanimous ruling from the Ontario Court of Appeal upholding the province's bike lane framework, the Ontario Ministry of Transportation issued a request for proposals (RFP) to restore motor vehicle lanes on Bloor Street, Yonge Street, University Avenue, Queen’s Park, Queen’s Park Crescent, and Avenue Road in Toronto. Minister of Transportation Prabmeet Sarkaria announced the immediate commencement of vehicle lane restoration on a western section of Bloor Street West starting east of Clissold Road. The policy actions are mandated by the Reducing Gridlock, Saving You Time Act, 2024 and the Plan to Protect Ontario Act, 2025, addressing provincial gridlock estimated by the Canadian Centre for Economic Analysis to cost $56 billion annually.
