Dan Kutcher has resigned as Mayor of Summerside, effective September 1, to enter the leadership race for the Prince Edward Island Liberal Party. Kutcher, who served a four-year term, has been approved as a leadership candidate ahead of the party's September 4 nomination deadline and plans to launch his campaign on September 13 in Summerside. Additionally, he intends to seek the Liberal nomination in the provincial district of District 21, Summerside-Wilmot, during the next provincial election. Deputy Mayor Cory Snow will assume the mayoral duties for the City of Summerside until the next municipal election takes place on November 2.
