  The federal government is investing $7.3 million to construct a new holding basin near the Wood Islands ferry terminal on Prince Edward Island. Built on federal property west of the terminal by Quebec-based contractor Sani-Sable, the basin will store approximately 125,000 cubic metres of sediment generated from routine harbour dredging required by Transport Canada. Construction is scheduled to begin in November and conclude before ferry service resumes in the spring.

  An audit by Prince Edward Island Auditor General Darren Noonan reveals shortcomings in the province's Bridge Inspection Program, which manages over 1,500 bridges, road culverts, and retaining walls. The audit found that the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure's management system miscategorizes structures, lacks tracking for completed or outstanding repairs, and leaves the age of 19 percent of bridges unknown. Specifically, out of a sample of 30 major bridges, only seven identified maintenance needs had been completed, and just two were finished within the recommended one-year timeframe. While the auditor general confirmed there is no immediate safety crisis or risk of collapse, the department acknowledged the findings and has begun implementing measures to improve documentation and tracking practices.
