The City of Edmonton administration has released a draft four-year operating and capital budget proposing residential property tax increases of 4.9 per cent in 2027, 4.7 per cent in 2028, 4.5 per cent in 2029, and 3.9 per cent in 2030, which will cost the owner of a $500,000 home an additional $808.25 by 2030 compared to 2026. Administered by City Manager Eddie Robar, the draft features a $6.3 billion capital budget that allocates $2.3 billion to repairs and restoration of existing infrastructure and $3 billion to ongoing projects such as the Valley Line West LRT Line and the Yellowhead Trail freeway expansion. Additionally, public transit user fees are recommended to increase, including raising standard bus fares from $3.00 to $3.50, ahead of council budget deliberations and a public hearing scheduled to begin November 23.

The City of Edmonton presented its city-wide budget feedback report for the upcoming four-year budget cycle, highlighting competing public priorities between maintaining infrastructure like roads and keeping property taxes low.
