New Brunswick's public utility, NB Power, is proposing an average electricity rate hike of 5.5 per cent for each of the next three years, which would result in an increase of $13.25 a month for a home using 1,350 kilowatt hours. The multi-year rate application submitted to the province's power regulator is intended to help households and businesses plan ahead while addressing the utility's aging system infrastructure and $6-billion debt. If approved following a review by the New Brunswick power regulator, the new rates could come into force starting next April.
