Health and Wellness Minister Cory Deagle confirmed the initiative follows previous awards of 140 private long-term care beds in Cornwall (80 beds) and Summerside (60 beds). The facility, which may involve a new build or capital expansion of an existing site, aims to alleviate pressures on regional facilities including Kings County Memorial Hospital in Montague and Souris Hospital. The move drew criticism from the P.E.I. Liberal Party over the continued utilization of private-for-profit operators rather than public infrastructure investments.
