Federal, territorial, municipal, and First Nations governments participated in Operation Nanook-Tatigiit, a five-day disaster response exercise simulating a major earthquake greater than magnitude 7.0 along the Tintina Fault in Yukon. Participating Yukon First Nations, including Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in, Vuntut Gwitchin, and Little Salmon/Carmacks, collaborated on inter-community support strategies and identified permafrost research gaps for seismic preparedness.

Residents worry the route bypasses their community of approximately 180 people while potentially increasing environmental degradation to land and water, and raising access to illicit substances without corresponding local emergency services, such as a dedicated RCMP officer or local nurses.
