The Government of Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) have added a Dash-8 Q400 Multi-Role Emergency Response (Q400MRE) airtanker to their fleet, making SPSA the first jurisdiction in Canada to operate the aircraft. Based in La Ronge, the land-based aircraft features a loaded cruise speed of 660 km/h, a range of 1,160 km, a retardant capacity of up to 10,000 litres, and a reconfigurable cabin capable of carrying 64 passengers, 9,000 kg of cargo, or six stretchers for medical evacuations. The acquisition facilitates the retirement of a legacy CV580 airtanker as part of a fleet transition ahead of the 2027 wildfire season.
