The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador announced the opening of the 2026-2027 big game hunting and trapping seasons, starting September 12, 2026, across the province. Minister of Forestry, Agriculture and Lands Pleaman Forsey reminded hunters to adhere to firearm regulations, such as maintaining prohibited distances from roads and dwellings, and noted that Forest Fire Season regulations require all motorized vehicles on forest land to be equipped with proper mufflers, spark arresters, and an ABC-class fire extinguisher until September 30. New hunters must complete the Canadian Firearms Safety/Hunter Education Course by November 30, 2026, to qualify for the 2027-28 Big Game Licence Draw, while the public is encouraged to report illegal harvesting activities to the Wildlife Division via stoppoaching.ca or 1-877-820-0999.
