  The Government of Saskatchewan released its 2026-27 First Quarter Report, forecasting an $825 million deficit with total revenue of $21.7 billion and total expenses of $22.6 billion, compared to the initially projected $819 million deficit. Total revenue is $331 million higher than budget due to non-renewable resource revenues increasing by $320 million, driven by West Texas Intermediate oil prices rising to US $75.00 per barrel. Conversely, total expenses increased by $337 million over budget due to healthcare service demand pressures, compensation costs, flood-related response efforts, and higher Crop Insurance claims from unseeded acres. • Saskatchewan Responds to United States Trade Measures with Levy on American Alcohol

  In response to a 50 per cent tariff enacted by the United States on Canadian alcohol on August 22, 2026, the Government of Saskatchewan announced a reciprocal 50 per cent levy on U.S.-origin alcohol imported into the province. Effective September 8, 2026, the levy will apply to all U.S. produced alcohol ordered through the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority online ordering system. Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance Jim Reiter stated that the measure aims to defend provincial industries and exporters while encouraging a return to tariff-free trade.
